People in Islam
Week 9-1: Nouman Ali Khan; Ustaadh in Arabic
Nouman Ali Khan is a Muslim speaker and the CEO and founder of Bayyinah, an Islamic educational institution, which focuses on teaching Qur’anic Arabic and Tajweed. He began his formal Arabic training during his childhood schooling in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He continued his Arabic grammar study in Pakistan, where he received a scholarship for ranking among the top 10 scores in the national Arabic studies board examination.
On an episode of The Deen Show, he opened up about how he went from growing up in a Muslim family but later in life turning towards atheism. After gaining a better understanding about the Quran, he finally had all his questions answered and then turned back to Islam, alhamdulillah.
Br. Nouman lectures frequently about Islam, family, and other life topics. He knows how to put things together and present them in the most logical way, and gives great advice on how to apply the Qur’an to our everyday lives. He is truly relatable and a soure of inpiration for others.
Currently he has dedicated himself to a seven-year-long project, of conducting a linguistic & literary focus Qur’anic Tafseer series in English. Recordings of sessions conducted so far can be downloaded here. I urge you all to go and download the tafseers onto your iPod’s or phones. It will really help us all to understand the context of the Surah and the story behind what was revealed. It allows us to keep kushuu’ in our prayers because we understand what is being recited.
